It’s great to have you here. This space is to be filled with updates, insights, and discussions on the important work happening in the Pittsburgh Public Schools District.
Welcome to the Campaign for Tonya Fores – School Board, District 3
Putting Our Students and Community First
I’m Tonya Fores, and I’m honored to be a candidate for the Pittsburgh School Board representing District 3. As a lifelong resident of the Hill District, a graduate of Pittsburgh Public Schools, and a mother of two PPS graduates, I know just how important strong, equitable public education is for the success of our children and the future of our communities.
Why I’m Running
I’m running for school board because I believe in the power of public education to transform lives. Our schools are filled with potential, but too often, that potential is held back by unequal resources, outdated policies, and a lack of meaningful community input.
I want to bring a fresh, honest, and community-centered voice to the school board—one that listens, understands, and takes action. My lived experience as a student, parent, and neighbor gives me a deep understanding of what’s working and what needs to change.
My Priorities
-
Equity in Education
Every child deserves access to high-quality instruction, safe schools, and the resources to succeed—regardless of their zip code. -
Support for Students and Families
We must invest in mental health services, after-school programs, and wraparound support that meets the full needs of our students. -
Community Engagement
Parents, teachers, and students should have a seat at the table. I will always advocate for transparent, inclusive decision-making. -
Accountability and Fiscal Responsibility
Our schools must be run efficiently and responsibly, ensuring that every dollar supports student learning and success.
About Me
I’ve spent my life in the Hill District, where I’ve been a neighbor, mentor, and advocate. I’m a proud alumna of Pittsburgh Public Schools and the proud mother of two PPS graduates. I currently serve on the 5th Ward Committee, where I work alongside others to ensure our community is represented, heard, and respected.
These roles have deepened my belief in the power of civic engagement and the importance of strong, accountable leadership in our public institutions. With deep roots in our neighborhood and a heart for public service, I’m ready to bring my voice—and your voice—to the school board.
